Valentines Day
Feb 14

Explore Romeo and Juliet by speaking them

Valentine’s Day Workshop

A Choice of a morning or afternoon session on Sunday 14th February 2021

Morning Workshop:  10.00am-1.00pm           Afternoon Workshop:   2.30pm-5.30pm

Individual tickets:  £25      Couple tickets (one or two screens):  £40

Everyone’s invited to this Valentine’s Day Zoom workshop where you’ll spend three hours exploring your voice as you explore Romeo and Juliet – by speaking them. The session will start with a vocal warm-up, go through a guided, summarised read-through, and then explore the play’s most famous speeches using vocal exercises that help professional actors explore text.  The idea is that speakers don’t focus on the challenges of Shakespeare’s language but allow his words to speak them. And on Valentine’s Day what better words could anyone allow to speak them than these words of love?

At the end of the session you’ll have a greater understanding of your own voice, and of the language of Romeo and Juliet. You’ll also be a more lyrical lover.

Participate on your own or with your loved one.

Individual tickets:  £25       Couple tickets (one or two screens):  £40

But why should we do this workshop just because the restaurants are closed?

And why should I buy a single ticket?

Because, whether you’re Judy Dench, a lawyer or a prisoner, there is delight in speaking Shakespeare.

Why?

Because the physical commitment required to speak it gives the mouth and lungs a good workout.

Because speaking Shakespeare invites self-exploration.

And simply because it’s fun. Feeling vibrations spill out of the body as we make muscular, emotionally-rich speech sounds is an uplifting and completely legal pleasure.

And on 14th February these sounds will give the greatest pleasure – for lovers or loathers of public speaking; for singles or couples; for native or non-native speakers of English.

This Valentine’s workshop is for everyone.

Choose from a morning or afternoon session (UK time). Each lasts three hours. Pleasure and action will make the hours seem short.
